Ihlara Valley
Ihlara Valley is an impressive canyon approximately 15 kilometers long and up to 150 meters deep, located in the southwestern region of Cappadocia. Formed by the erosion of the Melendiz River over thousands of years, the valley is famous for hosting around 50 churches and numerous dwellings carved into the rock, many dating from the 4th century AD. These structures were used by Byzantine Christian communities as a safe refuge. On this day we will walk about 1h30 along the Melendiz River under the trees and visit Byzantine churches along the route. Lunch will be served in the middle of the valley next to the river.
Selime Monastery
We take a minivan to visit the Selime Cathedral. Located at the end of the Ihlara Valley, the monastery offers panoramic views of the surroundings. Access involves a steep walk of approximately 10 minutes along rocky paths, so appropriate footwear is recommended. On this day it is also possible to visit a carpet factory where traditional and modern carpets are produced using artisanal techniques. Turkish carpets are famous worldwide for their quality, intricate designs and durability. Arrival at the hotel around 18:00.
